Liposuction of the Face and
Neck Sometimes, in spite of diet and exercise, it is impossible to reduce the localized fat that deposits in the neck, jowls and below the chin. In certain patients, liposuction may be extremely beneficial for improvement of neck and face appearance. Occasionally, in conjunction with a facelift procedure, liposuction will be performed to contour the neck and jaw area; however, liposuction alone can be an effective tool for correction of the "double chin" and other imperfections. Dr. Alford uses the tumescent liposuction technique in which a fluid solution is infiltrated into the area designated for liposuction. This technique eliminates bleeding and allows for maximal fat removal. Fat is literally "vacuumed" out through a suction catheter via a small incision under the chin, the incision is closed and recovery time is very brief, usually less than one week. Liposuction, alone, is most effective for younger patients with moderate amounts of fatty tissue under the chin and neck. If fatty tissue is present in large amounts or the skin is very lax, liposuction is usually performed in conjunction with a mini-facelift (directed at removing the excess skin present after the fat is eliminated). Most patients note significant improvement immediately after surgery. However, as with any facial plastic surgery procedure, the ultimate result and final improvement must await complete healing from 6-12 weeks following the procedure. | ||
